Peru confers Medal of Honour on UAE minister
October 14th, 2009 - 12:17 am ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Lima, Oct 13 (IANS) Peru President Alan Garcia has awarded the Medal of Honour of first grade to the visiting United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan here Tuesday, WAM news agency reported.
The Peruvian leader also called for bolstering Peru-UAE trade ties.
The UAE and Peru have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will allow the two countries to hold talks on strengthening bilateral relations.
Peru said it would like to open a general consulate and a trade representation office in Dubai.
Sheikh Abdullah has welcomed the step and said it would contribute to expand relations in areas of economy, trade and investment.
Last year, the volume of trade between the two countries was worth $32.8 million.
