Passengers stranded as Kingfisher cancels flights
August 8th, 2012 - 11:50 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi/Mumbai, Aug 8 (IANS) Passengers of Kingfisher Airlines were stranded Wednesday as flights from the national capital and Mumbai were cancelled due to a strike by pilots over non-payment of salaries. Official sources put the number of cancelled flights at nearly two dozen.
The protest by a section of employees, including pilots and engineers, forced the airline to cancel nearly two dozen flights from Delhi and Mumbai, airport and airline sources said.
According to an airline source, the company’s management was monitoring the situation closely and would hold a meeting with the representatives of the protesting employees to resolve the issues.
The company’s board was also expected to meet Friday to review the airline’s performance, he said.
Last month, the airline faced a similar situation when it cancelled 40 flights across its network, stranding thousands of passengers.
The airline is going through a financial crisis and has seen an exodus of pilots and engineers. The airline had to cancel several flights in May as a group of pilots reported sick.
The cash-strapped airline had also suspended operations to several cities in the last week of March and asked its staff to stay at home till it managed fresh funding.
