Passengers at Raipur airport more than double
December 31st, 2011 - 1:22 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Dec 31 (IANS) The Raipur airport recorded a passenger flow of over 70,000 people per month in 2011 as compared to 30,000 a month in 2010, airport officials said Saturday.
“The monthly movement of passengers from Raipur airport was about 30,000-35,000 in 2010 while the figure has gone up to 70,000-80,000 a month in 2011,” Raipur’s Mana airport in-charge Anil Roy and air traffic controller Mukesh Bisen were quoted as saying in a government statement.
The airport officials credited the massive rise to Chhattisgarh’s decision to give a four percent relief in value added tax (VAT) on air fuel at the airport which lowered the airfare.
Raipur airport sees 32 daily flights and is linked to a majority of the state capitals and major towns of the country.
The airport presently has parking capacity for four planes that will rise to nine once a new terminal comes up.
