New Delhi, Jan 14 (IANS) The Delhi Metro, which added five more kilometres to its Sarita Vihar-Badarpur section on the Central Secretairat-Badarpur line, registered a footfall of over 15,000 on the first day of operations Friday. After two inspections and three months delay, the last three stations - Mohan Estate, Tughlakabad and Badarpur - were opened to the public at 8 am Friday.

Till 6 pm, the three stations registered a footfall of around 15,000. Badarpur was the busiest station with a footfall of 10,000, Metro authorities said.

The metro station at Mohan Estate recorded 2300 and Tughlakabad 2950 passengers.

“I waited for long for this link. I’m very happy. This stretch will benefit commuters from south Delhi localities such as Mohan Estate, Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj and the satellite town of Faridabad in Haryana,” Cynthia Jacob, a Badarpur resident said.

The Central Secretariat-Badapur line was earlier functional upto Sarita Vihar. With the opening of the entire stretch, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation expects the footfalls on the line to increase to 2.25 lakh from the current 1.25 lakh, according to an official.
