Orissa seeks Rs.1,000 crore for flood relief
October 21st, 2011 - 12:12 am ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Oct 20 (IANS) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Pantaik Thursday sought Rs.1,000 crore from the central government for repair and restoration work in the regions affected by floods last month.
The chief minister met union Agriculture Minister Sharad Power in New Delhi and apprised him about the loss of life and damage to property and public infrastructure cause by the calamity, Patnaik’s office said in a statement here.
Patnaik told the minister that the state has already spent Rs.411 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
Two rounds of floods triggered by heavy rains had hit 21 of state’s 30 districts last month, killing at least 83 people and displacing thousands. The financial impact of the disaster has been estimated at Rs.3,265 crore.
