Opposition protests hit road, rail services
March 9th, 2011 - 8:21 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, March 9 (IANS) A two-day “economic blockade” called by the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) demanding that the state be declared famine hit affected road and rail services, officials said.
Two legislators of the main opposition party were arrested even as their supporters disrupted railway services in Dhanbad, Hatia and other places.
“Both the state and central governments have failed to take measures to help people facing the drought,” party president Babu Lal Marandi told reporters here.
The protests also hit the movement of trucks in Dhanbad, Simdega, Giridih and other districts. Trucks were stranded on national highways.
