One more train added to Delhi-Gurgaon corridor
June 22nd, 2010 - 6:25 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 22 (IANS) The Delhi Metro Tuesday added an additional train to its existing fleet of five on the newly inaugurated 14.47 km Gurgaon-New Delhi Metro line, an official said.
The Metro rail service on the Qutub Minar - HUDA City Centre route started Monday morning. The line will be extended in a month to Central Secretariat and Jehangirpuri in north Delhi.
“By adding one more train to the existing five the time gap will be reduced from 12 to 10 minutes,” the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said.
The new train added to this Metro stretch will allow DMRC to make 32 more trips on this corridor in a day.
“If the ridership figures increase, more trains will be added on this corridor,” the official said.
The total footfall on this corridor on the first day was 36,182.
Qutub Minar was the busiest station with a footfall of 9,584. HUDA City Centre was second with 5,970 and MG Road was the third busiest Metro station with a footfall of 5,766.
Delhi Metro makes over 1,900 trips on its five lines which cover a total distance of 111 km excluding the new metro corridor.
By the October Commonwealth Games, the Metro network is expected to reach nearly all areas of the capital as well as suburbs like Gurgaon, covering nearly 190 km.
About one million commuters use the Metro on weekdays. During the Games, about two million commuters are expected to use the Metro on weekdays.
