Oman navy selects Thales for self-defence capabilities
August 26th, 2010 - 8:45 pm ICT by IANSNeuilly-sur-Seine, Aug 26 (IANS) European electronics major Thales has been selected by the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) to equip its patrol boats and corvettes with Vigile ESM (electronic support measures) systems, the company said.
The Vigile 200 and Vigile 400 family of ESM solutions “has been developed to monitor, measure and analyse electromagnetic signals, providing the crew with early warning, situation awareness and electromagnetic signals intelligence functions in both open ocean and dense littoral environments,” a Thales statement said.
With the Thales systems, the RNO “will benefit from the most advanced ESM solutions available today, fully tailored to its specific operational requirements”, the statement added.
The Vigile 200 system “offers excellent surveillance coverage”, while the Vigile 400 “is the highest performance system”, the statement said.
The Vigile range equips surface combatants and submarines in service with more than 25 countries to date. The range also includes land and airborne versions.
“All Vigile products are based on a modular architecture comprising an antenna system, signal reception and processing units and an operator display console.
“This latest international success is a further endorsement of Thales’s ability to design, develop, manufacture and integrate naval electronic warfare solutions,” the statement said.
Thales is a global technology leader for the aerospace and space, defence, security and transportation markets. In 2009, the company generated revenues of 12.9 billion euros with 68,000 employees in 50 countries.
