Oil retrieved from sunken Mongolian ship
November 14th, 2009 - 12:10 am ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Bhubaneswar, Nov 13 (IANS) A US firm hired to pump out oil from a Mongolian flagged ship that sank Sep 9 off the Paradip harbour in Orissa has retrieved all the furnace oil and diesel stored in the ship, a senior port official said Friday.
The team of the Florida-based salvage firm, Resolve Marine Group, began retrieval of the vessel’s oil Oct 23 and completed the work Friday, the official said.
The 975 tonnes of furnace oil and 48 tonnes of diesel stored in the sunken ship has been retrieved.
A total of 27 crew members were on board. One crew member - a Ukrainian national - however, died in the mishap while all others were rescued.
