Experts are advising that if the debt collector threatens or insults you, you can hang up the phone on him/ her. Yea, you heard right, you can just hang up on the debt collector because it is within your right.

Though these tips helps out, experts say there are different debt collection laws for the various states. So the key to knowing your right is to know the tax collection law in your state.

Once you know your rights and the abuse continues, experts say you can turn the table on the debt collectors by walking into the offices of the debt collection company and demanding to speak to the senior-most authority and make sure he/ she knows that you know your right and you expect the abuse to stop that minute.

But if it continues after that, contact your attorney and direct your debt collectors to your attorney. You can also obtain evidence that suggests that your debt collector is harassing you. The court might really be interested in hearing that.

Another tool is to stop any kind of contact between you and your debt collectors. Yes, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act gives you that right.

But if you think you do not owe that amount or it is unfairly charged against you, dispute the debt, trust that if you have a case, you will win.
