NTPC not to file separate plea in Ambani brothers’ tussle
September 2nd, 2009 - 6:06 pm ICT by IANSNoida, Sep 2 (IANS) State-run power utility NTPC will not file a separate plea in the ongoing legal dispute between Reliance Industries and Reliance Natural Resources since the government has already moved an application to protect its own and the navratna firm’s interests, a senior government official said Wednesday.
“Since the petroleum ministry has come out in support of NTPC, there is no need for NTPC to go to the Supreme Court,” Power Secretary H.S. Brahma told reporters here.
The government Tuesday filed an interlocutory application ahead of the hearing Oct 20 on the feud between the companies led by the Ambani brothers, Mukesh and Anil, saying its policy on pricing and allocation of gas was without prejudice to the case involving NTPC.
The government’s application batted for NTPC, which is fighting a legal battle with the Mukesh Ambani-headed Reliance Industries for gas supplies at $2.34 per unit for 17 years, based on a tender floated a few years ago.
It said the rights and obligations between Reliance Industries and NTPC cannot be regarded as similar to the private arrangement between the companies headed by the Ambani brothers.
