Now, lease an electric car in Paris
October 2nd, 2011 - 7:33 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Oct 2 (IANS) People visiting Paris will now be able to enjoy a new public service — leasing an electric car! This new mode of transport launched Sunday in the city is aimed at reducing the number of private cars on streets.
The plan, dubbed “Autolib” is similar to “velib”, a public bicycle sharing system launched in 2007 in French capital, Global Times reported Sunday.
The experimental stage of the Autolib project will last two month with 66 cars at 33 stations around the city.
Costumers can pay between five euros and seven euros for every half-hour use or register for a year, weekly or 24-hour package with different costs.
Once fully charged, the four-seated “Bluecar” can reach a top speed of 130 kmph.
To encourage short journeys rather than long trips around the capital, the Paris administration wants to expand the Autolib’s existing fleet to 250 cars by December.
