Now, electricity sub-stations that work through remote!
November 23rd, 2010 - 4:32 pm ICT by IANSRohtak (Haryana), Nov 23 (IANS) A power distribution agency in Haryana has started a unique experiment - running two 33 KV power sub-stations through remote control.
The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has energized two unmanned 33 KV sub-stations in this Haryana town, 270 km from Chandigarh.
DHBVN officials said the second of this kind of unmanned power sub-station was commissioned Tuesday at Officer’s Colony, Delhi Road, at a cost of Rs.2.50 crore. The first sub-station has been set up at the Bal Bhawan complex here.
“The DHBVN has made a provision to control the sub-station from a remote location through computers. The remote control hardware and software for controlling this sub station have been placed at another location. The real-time data of each feeder and the transformer would be available to the controlling authorities,” a DHBVN spokesman said.
“The remote control hub records all events in real time and enables preventive action when electrical parameters go beyond safety levels, thus minimizing damage to costly electrical equipment,” he added.
Both the unmanned sub-stations will be controlled through computers and software located at another controlling sub-station.
The spokesman added that staff at the controlling station would be able to monitor any disruption in power supply in areas fed by the unmanned sub-stations and restore it immediately. He said that this would also improve voltage in these areas.
