Not exceeded brief in preparing CWG report: CAG
August 5th, 2011 - 7:01 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) The government’s top auditor office Friday said it had not exceeded its brief in preparing the audit report for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) last year.
Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Rekha Gupta told mediapersons that the CAG conducts performance audit and the exercise was carried out independently in accordance with laid down norms.
Replying to queries, she said the CAG carries out “an independent assessment” to see if the desired impact had been achieved and to the extent a programme operates efficiently.
She said the ministry of finance had also issued a clarification in 2006 in relation to the role of CAG.
The report, tabled in parliament Friday, pointed fingers at Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit among others for irregularities in awarding contracts for the games.
