Nokia Siemens Networks, du to upgrade Dubai telecom service
October 24th, 2010 - 11:29 pm ICT by IANSDubai, Oct 24 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirate’s telecom service provider, du, has signed a deal with Nokia Siemens Networks to comprehensively upgrade its mobile operations across the country, investing AED 400 million ($108 million).
Nokia Siemens Networks will expand du’s 2G network and introduce its 3G HSPA+ network with speeds of up to 42Mb as part of du’s existing 3G HSPA+ network.
“This comes in line with du’s ongoing strategy for mobile network development,” said Hatem Bamatraf, senior vice president of network development at du.
“Nokia Siemens Networks will help us upgrade and modernise our network to improve coverage, and enhance our customers’ communication experience on the move in services such as internet browsing, email, mobile TV, voice and video mail among other value added services,” Bamatraf said.
Kalle Autto, head of du customer team at Nokia Siemens Networks, said: “Our strong product portfolio and expertise will help du to significantly improve its operational efficiency and lower energy consumption, while enabling faster and more efficient service introduction.”
Nokia will also deploy an all-IP FlexiPacket Microwave Backhaul system to reduce du’s operating costs.
