Shillong, Aug 25 (IANS) Mini-cinemas and multiplexes in Meghalaya will not have to pay entertainment tax for five years, the government has said.

“We have decided to exempt entertainment tax on mini-cinemas and multiplexes for five years,” Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told journalists Wednesday night after chairing a cabinet meeting.

The exemption was as per the recommendations of the General Administration Department (GAD), he said.

“The tax exemption is to encourage investment in this sector and generate economic activity,” Sangma said.
