Detroit, Apr 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Nissan has issued a recall for over 271,000 SUV Pathfinders and Infinity QX4s due to some problems with the steering wheels. Apparently the salt that is present on the roads in the winters is responsible for the problems that the SUV owners are facing.

According to reports the SUV’s, which are being recalled, comprise of 225,650 Pathfinders built between 1996 and 2004. Apart from the Pathfinders, 45,330 Infiniti QX4s, which were made between 1997 and 2003, are being recalled as well. The only good part of the recall is that no accidents have been reported so far and there are also speculations that the problem persists with only a few vehicles, which would need to get the steering system replaced.

This recall is going to affect the SUV’s only in those regions where road salt is used liberally on the roads to keep them free from snow during the harsh winter months. This road salt could mix with the melted snow and reside in the strut housing of the SUV and with time lead to corrosion.

Nissan officials said that they are planning to inform the customers about the recall in the coming month.
