Mar 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The craze for the ecofriendly and hybrid cars is on rise and the addition of Nissan Leaf is being considered important by the auto industry veterans. The Leaf is being touted as the first ever all-electric car powered by battery. The car buyers are pretty excited with the model and the pricing of the Leaf has sent waves in the fiercely competitive auto industry. Until a few weeks back the industry experts thought that an all-electric car would be priced too high to woo the average car buyers. Since Nissan has decided to keep the car priced around $30,000 it may sell like hot cakes in the market and the green lobbies will also support it.
The suggested price for the new Nissan Leaf is $32,780 and after a federal tax credit it will come down as low as $25,280. This will put it in the same category as Toyota Prius and Honda Civic. The residents who stay in states like California and Georgia will enjoy another state rebate worth $5000. This will bring down the cost of the car around 420,000. It has been claimed by the company that the Leaf will run 100 kms on a single recharge.
Nissan Leaf may force rival automakers like GM and Toyota to lower the price of their models. The GM Volt which was to be priced at $40000 earlier will be actually priced lower. Initially, Nissan will start selling the model in select states of the USA. It will sell the model in all states of the country by the last part of 2011.
