Nine Air India flights cancelled in northeast
April 28th, 2011 - 8:25 pm ICT by IANSAgartala/Guwahati, April 28 (IANS) Several Air India (AI) flights scheduled to operate between northeastern states and Kolkata were cancelled Thursday, the second day of the strike by the pilots of the state-owned airline, resulting in immense inconvenience to passengers.
According to AI officials in Agartala and Guwahati, at least four flights from Kolkata — to Imphal, Agartala and Guwahati — were cancelled till Thursday evening.
However, a flight each to Silchar in southern Assam, Guwahati, Imphal and Shillong operated from the Kolkata airport.
Around 800 pilots and members of the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), earlier on the payrolls of the erstwhile Indian Airlines, had gone on an indefinite strike from Tuesday midnight demanding parity in pay with their counterparts in Air India and among other issues related to work conditions.
