Night passenger trains suspended
July 4th, 2010 - 7:59 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, July 4 (IANS) Movement of passenger trains during the night on the Kharagpur-Rourkela and Kharagpur-Adra sections of South Eastern Railway (SER) will remain suspended till July 9 due to security reasons following the May 28 Gyaneshwari Express disaster.
The passenger train services will be suspended between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., a SER spokesperson said Sunday.
Night operations of passenger trains were suspended following the Gyaneshwari Express tragedy in which 148 people were killed.
The Mumbai-bound train derailed due to alleged Maoist sabotage and a freight train approaching from the opposite direction rammed into five derailed coaches.
Several long distance trains to and from west and central India have either been rescheduled, diverted or cancelled, said the SER spokesperson.
“Long distance trains originating from Howrah — 2810 Howrah-Mumbai Mail via Nagpur, 2130 Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express, 2834 Howrah-Ahmedabad Express, 2906 Howrah-Porbandar/Okha Express, 2152 Howrah-LTT Samarsata Express via Adra and 8419 Puri-Darbhanga Express have been rescheduled,” said the spokesperson.
“While 5639 Puri-Guwahati Express, Orissa-Sampark Kranti Express, 2816 New Delhi-Puri Express, and 2282 New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Duronto Express have been regulated by East Central Railway to avoid night journey on the Adra-Kharagpur section,” the spokesperson said.
Three trains — 315/316 Howrah-Adra Chakradharpur Passenger, 315A/316A Howrah-Adra-Bokaro Passenger and 353/354 Kharagpur-Tata Passenger trains — have been cancelled till July 9, the spokesperson said.
