Neyveli Lignite to power capacity to 4,640 MW by 2015
July 8th, 2011 - 8:38 pm ICT by IANSChennai, July 8 (IANS) Integrated mining-cum-power generation company Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd. (NLC) Friday said it would increase its power capacity to 4,640 MW by 2015.
In a statement issued here, the company said power generation will go up from the current 2,740 MW as a result of various projects being implemented by the company.
According to NLC, the first 250 MW unit of thermal power station-II (TPS-II) expansion is expected to the commissioned this month and the second unit in next March.
The company said the 1,000-MW coal based power project in joint venture with Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) is coming up in Tuticorin and is expected to go on stream 2012-13.
The union government has sanctioned NLC a new 1000-MW thermal power project in the place of its old 600 MW TPS-I at an outlay of around Rs.5907 crore and the project is expected to be commissioned Dec 2015.
Meanwhile, the company said it has exceeded performance targets set till June this fiscal.
According to NLC lignite production, during April-June this fiscal was around 6.42 million tonne as against a target of 6.10 million tonne.
The power generation during the period under review stood at around 4,810 million units as against a target of 4,800 million units.
