New taxiway to cut congestion at Mumbai airport
September 27th, 2011 - 8:53 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Sep 27 (IANS) A new taxiway will be built at the Mumbai airport to slash runway occupancy time and reduce congestion, an official said Tuesday.
The taxiway shall be constructed by Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) between the existing Taxiway E-1 and Taxiway E-2, which are beside the secondary runway, 14/32.
“The construction work will be taken up from Oct 10 (2011) to Jan 20, 2012, but flights shall not be disrupted as the main runway 09/27 will continue normal operations during the period,” the official told IANS.
Though Mumbai has two runways and both are capable of handling large and wide-bodies aircraft, they criss-cross each other. Both runways are used daily for take offs and landings, the official said.
