Chandigarh, Aug 7 (IANS) The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) Thursday said it will extend full support for the development of IT and IT enabled services (ITES) industry in Punjab. “Nasscom will provide all necessary help for setting up a core IT vision group in Punjab that would meet at regular intervals and channel the growth of IT industry in the region,” Naasscom chairman Ganesh Natarajan said here.
Natarajan was speaking at a meeting of IT industry leaders and state officials, organised by the Punjab government.
“The government of Punjab is very much interested in the development of IT industry and is ready to work together with Nasscom. Their policies are also favourable for the healthy growth of IT business. Here we have the world-class infrastructure and human resources, so this region has all potential to emerge as the next self sufficient IT hub of the country,” he said.
“Our aim is to initiate an informal discussion with Nasscom through such meetings. We will obtain their perspective on the roadmap that we need to chart out for the growth of the IT sector in the state,” Punjab IT Minister Adaish Pratap Singh Kairon said.
Kairon assured the industry leaders of the full support of the state government. He requested them to stay in touch with the top officials of the state government to present their view points and feedback.
“We would try to identify various other locations in Punjab, apart from Mohali where we can expand the IT business and, we will soon make Punjab at par with other Tier-I cities of India in the IT front,” Kairon added.
