Mumbai terror mastermind among 20 arrested in PakDecember 8th, 2008 - 1:41 pm ICT by ANI
Muzaffarabad, Dec 8 (ANI): Wanted Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander, Zakiur Rehman Lakhwi has reportedly been arrested by Pakistani army personnel on the outskirts of Muzaffarabad, the Dawn reports.
According to sources, over 20 members of the banned LeT, including its Azad Kashmir chief were arrested during a crackdown.
The army had on Sunday launched a crackdown on activists of the LeT and its front organisation Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) on the outskirts of the Azad Kashmir capital.
The army raided a site housing some infrastructure currently used by JuD, which is headed by Hafiz Mohammad Saeed.
However, there was no official confirmation about the attack from the Interior Ministry or the Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR).
Residents said they saw army personnel taking charge of the area along the Shawai Nullah, some five kilometres northwest of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan administered Kashmir.
Ambulances were also called out to the site, but witnesses said they returned without any casualties.
Earlier, before being the ban was imposed, the LeT, founded by Hafiz Saeed, occupied this area.
A JuD official denied any information regarding the operation. (ANI)
