Mumbai, Dec 16 (IANS) A three-day trade fair featuring 170 stalls representing businesses of Dalit entrepreneurs from across India was inaugurated here Friday by Godrej group chairman Adi Godrej.
The trade fair has been organised by the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI).
Also present on the occasion was Republican Party of India (RPI) Chief Ramdas Athawale.
Tata group chairman Ratan Tata, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, and union Social Justice Minister Mukul Wasnik, amongst others, are likely to visit the fair.
“This is an effort to bring together all Dalit entrepreneurs on one platform and to ensure the exchange of thoughts and ideas leading to increase in their businesses & productivity. The fair would provide much required guidance and information regarding finances, government policies and schemes to the participants,” said DICCI chairman Milind Kamble.
A B2B networking session for DICCI members with heads of procurement and purchase of more than 150 large CII member organisations has also been organised during the trade fair.
DICCI organised its first expo last year in Pune which was a huge success.
“Dalits have gained intellectual and political leadership. It is time now that they also gain business leadership,” said DICCI mentor Chandra Bhan Prasad.
“Through the trade fair, dalits will ensure that they are job givers and not only job seekers,” he added.
