More paddy arrival in Haryana than Punjab

Officials of the food and supplies department of Haryana said 161,345 tonnes of paddy had arrived in the state till Wednesday evening.
In Punjab, only 43,365 tonnes of paddy had been procured in the 1,600 procurement centres.
Nearly 133,000 tonnes of paddy were procured till Wednesday by government agencies, while over 28,350 tonnes were procured by private rice millers in Haryana.
The central government has fixed a minimum support price of Rs.980 per quintal for grade-A varieties of paddy, while for common varieties, the MSP is Rs.950 per quintal.
Government agencies in Punjab procured over 80 percent of paddy.
The procurement season is expected to pick up in one week’s time, officials said here.
