Moods among top three condom brands in UAE
January 6th, 2011 - 4:59 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, Jan 6 (IANS) Premium condom brand Moods, manufactured by city-based mini-ratna company HLL Lifecare Ltd, has become one of the top three premium condom brands in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a report said.As per the AC Nielsen report, HLL’s growth in the category is 33 percent in volume and 47 percent in value terms.
Moods condoms are available in the UAE, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Sultanate of Oman since 2008. The brand is available in 14 variants in the Middle East.
Chairman and managing director of HLL Lifecare M. Ayyappan said that registering Moods range in the Middle East market was another significant step towards making Moods a global brand.
“By virtue of uncompromising quality, Moods condoms are exported to 33 countries including such diverse market as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Latvia, Venezuela, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Trinidad & Tobago,” said Ayyappan.
It is also the first global condom brand to be registered by the UAE’s health ministry.
Moods brand was also recently accorded formal registration by Kuwait’s health ministry, and secured approval from Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), the statutory body in Saudi Arabia.
“Thus, HLL has set an example that an Indian brand can compete with global brands in the world if the quality is superior,” said Ayyappan.
HLL has a strong distribution network in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries through channel partners and its current coverage is more than 2,500 retail outlets that include hypermarkets, supermarkets, departmental stores, gas stations and pharmacies that account for more than 40 percent of the total condom category.
HLL has also launched MAKESURE (its Pregnancy test card) in 2009 and which is now available in major outlets in the GCC countries.
