County officials and business leaders, who are in India to promote economic development initiatives, met Haryana officials on Monday in New Delhi to discuss the symbiotic relationship for promoting business.

Pradeep Ganguly, Director of Montgomery County’s Department of Economicevelopment, said the agency’s mission is focussed on promoting Montgomery County, Maryland as a smart business location for Indian companies.

“There are many, many organisations that exist in Montgomery County that are critical to your growth and development in North America and they are all in Montgomery County. So come take a look at Montgomery County because we believe that we are truly a smart location for a company, a growing, large Indian company that’s looking for business opportunities in North America,” he said inviting Indian companies to invest in Montgomery County.

He added that they are looking for investments to happen both ways, that is companies based in Montgomery County, Maryland to be investing in companies in India and vice versa, just like they have entered into a partnership with Haryana.

Meanwhile, Julie Coons, Chief Executive Officer of Tech Council of Maryland said that besides exploring the Indian markets and finding business partners, India also offers an easily available skilled workforce that the US was short of.

“There’s obviously a tremendous, highly educated workforce here in India that has tremendous math and science skills. One of the things that is difficult for American companies is the workforce shortage in skilled labour and it is an expensive workforce. When you find that skilled labour they’re expensive and very hard to retain. So one of the great opportunities to be here in India is to find very stable, highly educated, affordable workforce that can fulfil your needs and advance your company not only in the Indian market, but globally,” she said.

At present Montgomery County Department of Economic Development is in partnership and has started joint ventures with Haryana, which they are looking to nurture and later use the link to bring Montgomery companies to invest in India.

Haryana Governor A R Kidwai said he feels it is a very important and useful mission especially at boosting economic cooperation between the developed and developing nations.

“There are certain business operations that they find can be done better in India. And certain manufacturing and production industries can be set up in the developed countries so that in the globalised economy, there is a happy cooperation between the advanced countries of Europe and America and those who have advanced technology, and the developing countries of Asia, who have the manpower and resources,” said Kidwai.

Montgomery County will also be going to Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad to build a broad Indian partnership in several areas that include biotechnology, pharmaceutical, drug development, vaccine development. (ANI)
