Amritsar, Dec 21 (IANS) A minor fire broke out at the Rajasansi international airport in Punjab’s Amritsar district in the early hours of Sunday, an official said.The airport was enveloped in a blanket of smoke that caused panic among the people.
“It was a minor fire, which was easily brought under control. There is no loss of life or injury to anyone. Three fire extinguisher vans were immediately called on the spot to keep the situation under control,” a police official told IANS.
“Renovation work is on in the airport premises and there was some welding work going on in the passengers’ arrival lounge. Sparks from the welding machine fell on some flammable material there and the fire spread in the area,” the official said.
