Milk to cost Rs.2 more in Karnataka from Tuesday

Bellary (Karnataka), Feb 14 (IANS) Milk prices will go up by Rs.2 per litre across Karnataka from Tuesday, the Karnataka Milk Federation that supplies the popular ‘Nandini’ brand milk and its products announced Monday.”We had sought an increase of Rs.3 per litre but the government has agreed for Rs.2 per litre,” KMF president and ruling Bharatiya Janata Party legislator from Bellary G. Somashekara Reddy told reporters here, about 300 km from Bangalore.
“The new prices will come into force from Tuesday,” he said.
The most preferred toned milk will cost Rs.21 per litre from Tuesday instead of Rs.19 per litre till now.
The federation has 65 percent market share in the state and sells around three million litres of milk per day.
The federation works with 13 milk producers’ cooperative societies across the state, with about a million members, including marginal farmers and self-help groups headed mostly by women.
