Micro-credit pioneer Yunus to address Indian parliament
September 1st, 2009 - 11:47 am ICT by IANSDhaka, Sep 1 (IANS) Micro-credit pioneer and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been invited to deliver a lecture in the Indian parliament during its winter session this year.
Yunus will deliver the second Professor Hiren Mukerjee Memorial Annual Parliamentary Lecture Dec 9 at the Central Hall of Parliament House, the Yunus Centre announced here Monday.
The lecture series is in memory of Hiren Mukherjee, a prominent member of the Communist Party of India elected to the Lok Sabha for five times from 1952 to 1977, United News of Bangladesh (UNB) news agency reported.
Mukherjee died in 2004.
The first Professor Hiren Mukherjee Memorial Parliamentary Lecture was delivered by Nobel laureate Amartya Sen last year, New Age newspaper said.
