Mexico registers $312 mn trade surplus

Mexico City, July 24 (IANS/EFE) Mexico has registered a $312 million trade surplus in the first half of 2010, a big turnaround from the $1.2 billion deficit in the same period last year, the government said.
Mexican exports totalled $141.26 billion between Jan 1 and June 30, an increase of 36.3 percent over the first half of 2009, the Inegi statistics agency said.

Petroleum exports rose 51.7 percent by value, it said.

Mexico’s imports also rose in the first six months compared to last year, climbing 33.6 percent to $140.95 billion. Imports of consumer goods rose 35 percent, it said.

Intermediate goods - final products used in the production process of other items - made up the lion’s share of Mexico’s imports in the first half of 2010, accounting for 76.6 percent of the total.
