Metro’s Noida section to be flagged off Thursday
November 11th, 2009 - 7:43 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Nov 11 (IANS) The Delhi Metro’s Noida link will be officially flagged off Thursday and will be open to public from Friday, an official said Wednesday.
The decision to open the Yamuna Bank to Noida City Centre Metro corridor was taken after Metro Railway Safety Commissioner R.K. Kardam gave the safety clearance.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson Anuj Dayal said Kardam inspected the section Tuesday and Wednesday and “has certified the section as fit for public carriage of passengers”.
“The section will be ceremonially flagged off tomorrow (Thursday) and will be opened for the general public from 6 a.m. on Nov 13,” Dayal said.
The DMRC last month said it wanted to open the section ahead of the India International Trade Fair, which begins Nov 14 in New Delhi, to enable Noida residents to avail of the Metro services.
The DMRC estimates that 53,000 passengers would be added to its daily commuters after opening of the Noida corridor.
The Noida Metro corridor could bring about a drastic change in the travelling habits of thousands of people in trans-Yamuna areas, Mayur Vihar, Ashok Nagar in east Delhi and Noida, and is likely to ease traffic on the Noida Highway as well as on the ITO junction.
The Yamuna Bank-Noida City Centre Metro is an elevated stretch and has 10 stations.
It will be integrated with the presently operational Yamuna Bank to Dwarka Sector-9 segment.
