November 14th, 2009 - 11:25 pm ICT by IANS Tell a Friend -

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) The Delhi Metro’s Noida link Saturday received a staggering footfall of 70,000 people just one day after it opened to public, grossing nearly Rs.16 lakh (Rs.1.6 million) in revenue, a Delhi Metro official said.
Services on the Yamuna Bank-Noida City Centre Metro opened to public Friday.

“Today too we received good response. We have received a footfall of 70,000 and revenue was nearly Rs.16 lakh on the new line (from Akshardham to Noida City Centre stations),” a Delhi Metro spokesperson told IANS.

The official added that till 8 p.m. Friday, Delhi Metro had recorded a ridership of 110,000 on the new line and raked in Rs.1.8 million. This despite the metro having projected a much lower figure of 53,000.

This link is Delhi Metro’s first foray outside Delhi and into the national capital region territory and the Noida corridor is an elevated stretch with 10 stations.

This east Delhi segment was integrated with the existing line towards Dwarka Sector-9 in southwest Delhi. Prominent stations include Akshardham Temple, two stations in Mayur Vihar, Noida Sector 15, Sector 16, Sector 18 and NOIDA City Centre at sector 32.

Commuters from the last stop - Noida’s City Centre - can land right in the heart of the national capital at Connaught Place’s Rajiv Chowk Station in a mere 36 minutes.
