New Delhi, July 12 (IANS) The much awaited Delhi Metro services to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh will start from Thursday, an official said.

“The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) today (Tuesday) inspected the 2.5 km stretch which has two stations, Vaishali and Kaushambi. The section is fully elevated,” Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.

Dayal said the CMRS is expected to issue a formal clearance Wednesday.

Passenger services will start from Anand Vihar in east Delhi towards Vaishali and simultaneously from Vaishali to Dwarka Metro stations at 7 a.m. Thursday.

According to the Delhi Metro’s detailed project report, around 40,000 passengers will travel on the section daily.

The Vaishali Metro route is an extension of the 35-km-long Dwarka-Yamuna Bank corridor. Out of the two routes from Yamuna Bank Metro station, one goes to Noida while the other, at present, extends up to Anand Vihar.

The Delhi Metro currently operates 56 trains, including 27 six-coach trains, on both the lines. With the opening of the Ghaziabad line, the total number of trains will be increased to 58.

The frequency of trains would be 3.5-4 minutes during the morning peak hours (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and evening peak hours (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.), the Delhi Metro said.

Delhi Metro runs around 2,000 train trips and ferries more than 16 lakh passengers every day.
