Metro services to be normal on Independence Day
August 12th, 2010 - 6:42 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) With just two days to go for Independence Day, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has made elaborate security arrangements but no services will be curtailed, officials said Thursday.
“Elaborate security measures has been made but there will be no restrictions in the movement of the trains, particularly at the Chandni Chowk metro station which is near the Red Fort,” a DMRC official told IANS.
However, the parking of vehicles will not be allowed in any metro station from Aug 14 (Saturday afternoon) to Aug 15 afternoon.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards the metro stations, has deployed 400 additional personnel at various metro stations, a senior CISF officer told IANS.
“Apart from this, frisking of passengers, which had been stopped, has been resumed prior to Independence Day, the officer said.
The CISF had some days ago stopped compulsory frisking of all passengers at Metro stations, contending that the exercise was too strenuous and long queues ensued due to this.
“The frisking might be stopped gradually but only after Independence Day. In certain major stations where the footfall is more, the frisking might continue. We will monitor the commuters via CCTV cameras,” the officer added.
