Mumbai, April 29 (IANS) The Indian equities market which opened in the green Tuesday ahead of the monetary policy announcement of the Reserve Bank of India recorded a marginal gain in early trade, with buying interest in metal stocks. The 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, opened with a gain 29 points at 17,050.87. Ten minutes into trading, the Sensex was at 17,043.93 with a gain of 27.97 points or 0.16 points.
At the same time, the S&P Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was trading at 5,108.70 points with a gain of 19.05 points compared to its previous close.
The market breadth was positive. On BSE 792 scrips advanced, 453 declined and 28 remained unchanged.
Tata Steel, ITC, Wipro were among the gainers while Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank and BHEL were among the losers in early trade.
Other Asian markets were trading mixed.
