McDonald’s to face a lawsuit over the Happy Meal toys

New York, Jun 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) McDonald is in a soup over their Happy Meal toys, because a nonprofit organization has warned them that it would sue them, if they don’t stop using toys to market their products.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest said that the strategy used by McDonalds to promote their products with toys is ‘unfair and deceptive marketing’. They also added that it is illegal to do so under many consumer protection laws. They also served a notice to the burger giant that they fully intend to sue the company and also gave them a deadline of 30 days to pull up their socks and clean up their act.
“McDonald’s is the stranger in the playground handing out candy to children. McDonald’s use of toys undercuts parental authority and exploits young children’s developmental immaturity — all this to induce children to prefer foods that may harm their health. It’s a creepy and predatory practice that warrants an injunction,” according to the CSPI litigation director Stephen Gardner.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest is a watchdog group that ‘promotes nutrition, food safety, and pro-health alcohol policies.’ However McDonald’s officials have said that they don’t agree with the group’s notice at all.
