June 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) 2010 is a year that has seen several product recalls and the trend is not limited to automobiles. A lot of food products and children toys have been recalled this year.
The latest to join the recall bandwagon is retailer giant McDonalds. In a recent development, the company has announced a recall of its special Shrek glasses. Ever since the company declared the recall its web page became inaccessible.
Possibly thousands of people who have bought these glasses tried to access the McDonalds site and caused the server to slow down for some time. It has been reported that the company has already sold 12 million Shrek glasses. The glasses have designs of popular cartoon characters of the Shrek movie franchisee imprinted on them.
McDonalds has asked the customers to return those glasses as they contain cadmium beyond the permissible level. The company has assured that it will pay back the customers. However, the refund procedure has not been made clear till now.
This has left some buyers confused as they are trying to figure out what to do with the glasses. The company will give the details on the refund procedure on Tuesday. A special recall website is being set up for that purpose.
The CPSC which deals with consumer complaints for various types of products has said that the buyers of the Shrek glasses do not need the bills to obtain refund and they can go to the McDonalds stores directly for that.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that the cadmium used in the designs of the glasses could be harmful for the users.
