June 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) McDonalds, the fast food giant has been warned by a US based consumer group for using its Happy Meals toys to allure the kids into its eating outlets.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest has said that it will sue the fast food giant unless it puts an end to its practice which according to it is unfair. It has given the brand a 30 day deadline. As per the allegation of the group, the marketing practices of McDonalds breach the consumer protection laws in states like California, Texas, New Jersey, Massachusetts and some others. Stephen Gardner, the litigation director of the group lambasted the fast food giant in his statement. He said that McDonald’s action can be compared with stranger luring innocent kids with candies.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest has sued a number of food companies in recent times. It sued Kellogg in 2006. However, it seems that McDonalds is not agreeing to the accusation slapped against it. William Whitman who is the Vice President of Communications of McDonalds said in his statement that the claim their toys violate the laws is far from true. Refuting the allegation he said that the Happy Meal gives the people who come to the fast food retail stores best quality food and high quality toys. He denied the Happy Meal violates the safety of the customers.
As a matter of fact McDonalds started the Happy Meal after the release of the latest Shrek film. It has got good response from the customers and the company is not in a mood to withdraw it now.
