Bharatiya Janata Party New Delhi, April 22 (IANS) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is not perfect as an organisation and needs improvement, newly-elected Delhi Mayor Rajni Abbi said Friday.

“I know we (MCD) as an organisation are not perfect and still there is lot of scope for improvement,” Abbi, who was elected to the post Wednesday, posted as her first message as mayor on MCD’s website.

Abbi, a Delhi University law professor and a first-time councillor from Mukherjee Nagar ward, also said: “I will take all possible steps to ensure that we meet the expectations of the public at large.”

Abbi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Wednesday defeated her rival Savita Sharma of the Congress by 88 votes. She takes over from her party colleague Prithvi Raj Sawhney.

The MCD is the second-largest municipal body in the world after Tokyo, and currently covers 97 percent of the area and 98 percent of the population of Delhi.
