Mumbai, Oct 13 (IANS) After suffering a loss of 16 percent last week, Indian equities markets rallied smartly Monday and by close of trading a key index recovered nearly 40 percent of last week’s losses.Markets recovered on strong global cues and yet another attempt by the Finance Minister P. Chidambaram to talk them up just before they opened Monday morning. Unlike last week, this time the move worked and equities wiped out 40 percent of the losses suffered last week.
The benchmark 30-share index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, the Sensex, closed at 11,336.66 points, up 808.81 points or 7.68 percent from its previous close Friday at 10,527.85 points.
The broader-based 50-share S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed at 3490.70, up 210.75 points or 6.43 percent from its previous close Friday at 3279.95 points.
The BSE midcap index closed at 3,837.70 points, up 161.70 points or 4.40 percent from its previous close Friday at 3,676.00 points.
The BSE smallcap index closed at 4,523.22 points, up 167.77 points or 3.85 percent percent from its previous close Friday at 4,355.45 points.
