Mumbai, March 28 (IANS) The Indian equities market opened in the green Friday with a modest positive gap, riding on strong cues from other Asian markets. The 30-share benchmark sensitive index of Bombay Stock Exchange opened with a positive gap of 84 points at 16,100.26. Ten minutes into trading, the Sensex was at 16,108.87 points, up by nearly by 84.70 compared to its previous close.
At the same time the S&P Nifty of National Stock Exchange was at 4,866.80 points, up 36.58 from its previous close.
The market breadth was positive with modest volumes. In the initial trade 791 scrips advanced, 218 declined and 13 remained unchanged.
Other Asian markets were trading firm. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 1.27 percent or 287.18 points at 22,951.40. Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted added 0.345 or 29.22 points at 8,635.17. Singapore’s Straits Times was up 0.75 percent at 3,031.24. South Korea’s Seoul Composite advanced 1.07 percent or 17.89 points at 1,694.13. However, Japan’s Nikkei was flat at 12,597.50.
Tata Steel, ACC Ltd, NTPC Ltd, Cipla Ltd were among the gainers at initial trade here while ONGC, HDFC bank, ICICI Bank and Tata Motors were among the losers.
