Mumbai, Feb 26(IANS) The Indian equities market opened positive Tuesday in line with its Asian peers. The 30-share benchmark sensitive index of the Bombay Stock Exchange opened with a gain of 110.80 points at 17,799.56. Twenty minutes into trade, the sensex went down a bit to 17,759.20, still a gain of nearly 108 points compared to its close Monday.
At the same time, the S&P Nifty of National Stock Exchange was at 5,243.80, up 13.1 percent from its previous close.
The market breadth was positive. In the initial trade 1,124 scrips advanced, 453 declined and 49 remained unchanged.
Other Asian markets were also trading higher. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng advanced 1.71 percent, Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.50 percent, Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted gained 0.67 percent, Singapore’s Straits Times surged 1.15 percent and South Korea’s Seoul Composite shot up 0.24 percent.
Here, HMT Ltd, Reliance Energy, HDFC bank Ltd and TVS motors were among the early gainers, while Bharti Airtel, Reliance Power and Jammu and Kashmir Bank were among the top laggards.
