New Delhi, March 3 (IANS) Harish C. Mariwala, chairman and managing director of consumer goods firm Marico Ltd, has taken over as president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the country’s oldest industry association.

“We will work closely with the government on key areas of economic reforms,” Mariwala told reporters Thursday.

Mariwala, who succeeds Rajan Bharti Mittal of Bharti Enterprises, was elected president of FICCI at its 83rd annual general meeting here Tuesday.

Naina Lal Kidwai, group general manager and country head of HSBC, has been elected vice president of FICCI.

“The election of Kidwai is historical first for FICCI both in gender terms and also because she is the first professional to hold office in FICCI’s 83-year history,” said Mariwala.

Mariawala said he would focus on specific areas like introduction of tax reforms, foreign investment in multi-brand retail and infrastructure, and in tackling corruption in national governance.
