Maran inaugurates Indian pavilion at Japan apparel fair
July 22nd, 2009 - 4:50 pm ICT by IANSTokyo, July 22 (IANS) With a view to finding new markets for the textile industry and reducing dependence on the US and the European Union (EU), India has begun promoting itself in Japan, with Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran inaugurating the Indian pavilion at the Mega Apparel and Textiles Show here Wednesday.
The initiative is part of the government’s policy to push Indian textiles exports to South East Asia, especially Japan.
Japan is one of the biggest consumers of textiles and clothing worldwide, but India accounts for a negligible market share of 1.12 percent in that country.
About 44 Indian textiles and clothing exporters from Delhi, Noida, Jaipur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Tirupur, Varanasi, Mohali and Ludhiana are displaying their products at the three-day fair.
The Apparel Export Promotion Council along with the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Promotion Council and the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, are among the participants.
