Maradona uses copter to land football academy inaguaration site

Kolkata, Dec.6 (ANI): Argentine football star Diego Maradona was an hour late, but thousands waited patiently, cheering, dancing and singing to catch a glimpse of this football hero when he arrived to lay the foundation stone of the football academy at the upcoming gated community complex Eden City at Mahestala in South 24 Parganas District, West Bengal.
Maradona flew by helicopter from his hotel in Kolkata to the site. On his arrival he waved to the crowds and offered air kisses. He also made the typical fighters gestures the Argentinean footballers are known to make on-field.
Addressing the crowds, Maradona said he was deeply moved to see the fan following he had in the state.
He said he knew Kolkata was football crazy but he could never have imagined the affection and love the people here had for him. The legendary footballer said he was sure the young aspiring footballers in India had a bright future.
With reference to the Football Academy, Maradona said, from the enthusiasm displayed by the youngers to practice, it was obvious that they were very keen and it boded well for the future of the football in the country. (ANI)
