Port Arthur, Mar 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A man was fired from his job at the Wal-mart in Port Arthur, and his supervisors also told him that he was fired, because of his bad body odor. Then the family filed a lawsuit against the company, which claimed that he was given the pink slip, as he had filed a workers compensation claim.

Jeremy Gernentz is not taking things lying down, after being fired from his Wal-Mart job. His mother Deborah Gernentz has sued the company over this unfortunate situation. Their attorney Moore Landry, L.L.P. in Beaumont filed the lawsuit. In the lawsuit the family claims that Jeremy Gernentz was given the pink slip from Wal-Mart, which is located on the Memorial Boulevard in Port Arthur on the 28th of December. The lawsuit states that, “the reason given for the termination was that complaints had allegedly been received concerning Jeremy’s body odor or hygiene.” The lawsuit also alleges that, “the real reason for the termination was that Jeremy sustained a reportable on-the-job injury and subsequently filed a workers’ compensation claim.” In the lawsuit the family of Jeremy Gernentz, wants punitive damages and other relief.

However a spokesman of Wal-mart defended the company’s decision and said that, “Wal-Mart is committed to treating its customers and associates with respect and dignity and is looking into the matter.”
