October 30th, 2009 - 8:37 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Scomi Engineering, a subsidiary of Malaysia-based Scomi Group Bhd, has signed a joint bidding agreement with India’s Geodesic Techniques for the proposed monorail project in Bangalore.
The 59-km project will have a total of 54 elevated stations along the proposed three lines with three to four interchange stations.
The first phase is expected to require $2.4 billion investment.
Work on the first line is slated to begin in mid-2010, with the last line to be completed in 2013. Under the terms of the agreement, Scomi will be the technology partner and systems integrator for the monorail system.
“Our collaboration and joint bid activity for this project reflects Scomi’s success in consolidating its position as one of the leading monorail solution providers in India,” Scomi International president Kanesan Veluppillai said.
This will be the first monorail system in Bangalore and is expected to ease the congestion in the highly crowded inner city.
Scomi and its consortium partner, Larsen and Toubro Ltd, are currently implementing India’s first monorail project in Mumbai.
