Mumbai, Feb 18 (IANS) Mahindra Defence Systems (MDS), a part of the $6-billion Mahindra Group and provider of bullet-proof vehicles to the armed forces, said it would strategically ally with Italian firm Whitehead Alenia Sistemi Subacquei (WASS). WASS is the maritime underwater systems subsidiary of $12-billion Finmeccanica Group of Italy.
“MDS has emerged as one of the foremost suppliers of light combat, armoured vehicles and their derivatives for defence and security forces in the country,” said Anand Mahindra, vice-chairman and managing director of the Mahindra Group.
The firm’s proposed joint venture with WASS will enable it to enhance its product range.
“We are looking at strategic partnerships with experienced players in the field which will help us enhance our product offerings for the defence sector.”
MDS is showcasing its armoured military vehicles at the fifth International Land and Naval Systems Exhibition currently underway in New Delhi.
The Finmeccanica Group has a long association with the Indian armed forces in supplying lightweight torpedoes and submarine fired decoys.
